The Istituto Comprensivo “Largo Volumnia” consists of three levels of education: a nursery school (5 sections), a primary school (39 classes) and a secondary school (9 classes). Its school population is, therefore, composed of 1170 pupils and 135 teachers. The three complexes – the school is divided into – welcome learners coming from diversified backgrounds, including students from different cultures and ethnic groups and a few growing up in situations of social and cultural disadvantage. In the last years the secondary level of the school has seen a significant increase in the number of students, definitely thanks to the quality of its educational policy plan whose success has been achieved by the professionalism of teaching staff, the positive classroom environment and the attention to the (special) needs of each student. The school is involved in a variety of extra-curricular projects - most of them funded by EU – engaging students in drama, sports activites and art lessons as well as aiming at enhancing students’ foreign language communicative competence and digital skills. As for educational offerings, this year – The Year of Cultural Heritage – the school has searched new ways to celebrate it so as to enable students to become closer and more involved in
their heritage. School staff is, therefore, aware of the value it has for individuals and societies and of the important role it plays in building the future of Europe.
